Our Heritage

St. Mary's Forane Church, Muttom

Built in AD 1023, St. Mary's Forane Church — Muttath Palli, Muttom, Cherthala — stands as a symbol of strong Christian faith and the spiritual renaissance of our community. Rebuilt around 1600 under Portuguese artistry, it is one of the most beautiful and largest churches in the region.

Its altars carry rare paintings made from fruit pulp, plant leaves and gold dust, and a magnificent relief of the Ascension of the Virgin Mary found nowhere else. The shrine of Mother Mary Immaculate has drawn pilgrims of every faith since 1904, making Muttom a renowned pilgrim centre under the Archdiocese of Ernakulam-Angamaly.
